MCTP Endorsed a "NO" vote

MCTP Position Reasoning - The MCTP believes that Montgomery County needs to invest in its transportation infrastructure, but the current bond proposal has several major problems:

  • Nearly 25% of funding goes to maintenance, lasting 15 years or less, when the bonds are 30 year bonds;
  • Nearly 40% goes to projects not identified as near-term needs on current county plans;
  • Lack of community involvement of impact on their community;
  • The projects do not align with county plans;
  • This bond repayment assumes an 8% growth rate, that is unlikely to occur with the drastic downturn in the Oil & Gas Industry;
  • The Woodlands Parkway Extension will make a bad situation worse, especially in electing not to widen Woodlands Parkway between Kuykendahl and Hwy 2978. With an 8 minute delay at Woodlands Parkway and 2978, once could sit through 3 to 4 light cycles.

For these reasons, we believe the voters of Montgomery County voted down this bond and now need to demand that commissioners come back with a clean bond, if needed, without any of the frills, in November. Details of the bond follows.
