declared

Kathleen Hamilton began serving as judge of the 359th in 2003.  For 12 years, she presided over civil, criminal, and family cases.  For the past 3 years, she has heard felony criminal cases only.  Besides her regular court dockets, she has presided over adult Drug Court (8 years), adult DWI Court (8 years), Juvenile Drug Court (4 years), and Veterans Treatment Court (2 years).  Her colleagues have elected her as Local Administrative Judge for two separate 2-year terms, which position she holds now.  In the community, she serves as vice-president of the Conroe Symphony Orchestra, on the Advisory Board of the Assistance League of Montgomery County, on committees with The Players Theatre Company at the Owen, current member and former Board member of the Conroe Noon Lions Club, and a long-time volunteer at Sacred Heart Church, Conroe, where she has just completed a 2-year term as chair of the Parish Pastoral Council.   The Texas Center for the Judiciary, based in Austin, plans and sponsors judicial education for Texas judges.  She served on its Curriculum Committee for several years, including Chair of the committee, is a frequent lecturer to judges, and was elected by Texas judges to serve in her current position on its Board of Directors.  She has received several awards, most recently including a Resolution by the State Bar of Texas for her work and the success of the specialty courts.

Judge Hamilton is a former Montgomery County and District Attorney, and managing attorney for the Montgomery County Women’s Center.  She speaks throughout the community to students and adults.  Firmly believing that the courtroom belongs to the community, she has welcomed dozens of high school and college students to her courtroom to observe jury trials, participate in mock trials, and to serve internships.
