Businessman Scott Milder and his wife Leslie are the founders of Friends of Texas Public Schools, a 501c(3) nonprofit organization committed to educating Texans about the strengths and achievements of Texas public schools… and there are plenty! The Milders founded Friends in 2004 in response to the incessant, oftentimes mean-spirited criticism leveled against Texas public schools with little recognition for their accomplishments, such as achieving the highest graduation rates in America. Yes, you heard that right.

Scott’s professional experience includes serving as the public information officer in the Galena Park and Mesquite independent school districts, and as a newspaper reporter and photographer. Scott is approaching his 20th anniversary as an executive at Stantec Architecture, an international engineering and architectural firm.

In 2013, Scott was elected to the Rockwall City Council and served two terms. He focused his council service on protecting local business from local government overreach, strengthening investment in fire and police, and road improvements, all of which he accomplished with no tax increases and tax rate decreases from 50.25 cents to 45.42 cents.

The Milders, married 20 years, are also small business owners in Rockwall, recently completing an extensive renovation of Rockwall’s Long family house, built in 1903. They’ve made it available to the public as a popular small event venue.  

Milder grew up in Austin where he attended Doss Elementary, Murchison Junior High, and graduated from Johnston High School. He attended the University of North Texas in Denton, earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism and radio/TV/film and a master’s degree in public relations.

Scott and Leslie have three children proudly enrolled in the Rockwall Independent School District.

The Milders are members of Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall. Scott became a Christian in 2009 when he was baptized in the Red Sea while serving on a mission trip in Egypt.
