declared

After high school I attended flight school and began a career as a corporate pilot flying for oil and real estate companies. After 22 years a medical condition forced me to retire from flying. I formed a real estate management firm with a partner and have been a small business owner in Montgomery County for 32 years.

Since 2012 I have been the Emergency Coordinator and president of the non-profit organization Montgomery County Amateur Radio Emergency Service, whose mission is to provide federally licensed emergency communicators to other charitable organizations, and when appropriate, to county agencies in times of a disaster and during the recovery phase..

From 2007 through early 2019 I was a volunteer firefighter and EMT for Montgomery Fire Department, responding with the emergency crews to all types of incidents. I also hold an Emergency Medical Services Instructor certification.

I am currently serving as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for the CASA program of Montgomery County, acting as  guardian ad litem for children in foster care.

I have been married to Lisa, a practicing physicians assistant, for four years. She has two girls from a previous marriage and I have one son from a previous marriage. I also have 'surrogate' daughter I claim as my own.

Questionnaire

General

Please describe what you believe are the most significant issues in this race, why and what you'll do to address them?

Unity in the party is by far the most important issue facing the party this year. A unified party can promote the platform and support the candidates with a unified front and give the candidates the best possible outcome in their respective races. Through intelligent debate and reasoning there should be no reason for opposition.

Do you promise, if elected, to abide by the RPT platform? And if not, please enumerate what problems you have.

Yes

What differentiates you from your opponents?

Each of us will do the best job we know how if elected. My opponent has openly supported the premise that the by-laws of 6-26-2018 are not legal and maintained that position even following the decision of the State Republican Executive Committee that they were adopted legally and are effective today.

What best describes your political ideology most(circle only one).
1.        Republican
2.        Grassroots
3.        Conservative
4.        Tea Party

Conservative

Please list 3 federal agencies that are popular in our culture and should be abolished

Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginny Mae (as one), Legal Services Corporation, Middle East Broadcasting Network, and hundreds of others...

Should Texas GOP limit their elected officials to 8 years or less from the same office, even though it will force some good candidates to leave an office?

This is called term limits and they are created by the losers in an election. Term limits are already effective. They are simply called "Elections."

When you leave office what accomplishment/s do you want to be your hallmark, your legacy, and why?

The unification of the Republican Party. There is no other single accomplishment that would boost the effectiveness of the party than that.

Taxes

What form of federal tax law do you support (e.g., current, flat tax, fair tax, other) and why?

Fair Tax. I believe that personal taxes should be based on what a person spends, not what a person earns. This promotes saving and personal responsibility.

A couple of years ago, a resolution was put forth by MoCo GOP to institute a 20% Homestead Exemption.  Did you support or oppose this and why?

I would support a 100% homestead exemption. We already support a 100% Sales Tax exemption on food. Your home should fall into the same ideology. One should not be taxed on their homestead.

2nd Amendment - guns

Do you believe the Second Amendment grants an individual right or a militia right?

Both. The Second Amendment affirms a right we already have. The right to self defense. Whether that self defense is in the form of a militia to protect us from a tyrannical government or a personal right to self defense from a tyrannical neighbor is irrelevant.

10th Amendment

Please explain your interpretation of the Tenth Amendment and the principle of nullification. Do states have a right of nullification? What should the federal government do if a state attempts nullification?

The powers of the federal government are written in the Constitution. Absent language regarding a specific power, that power is then reserved for the state. There is no other way to interpret that. However, the federal government continues to power grab with more and more laws being created that are not the specific powers of the federal government. The states do not have the authority to declare a law unconstitutional. Only the SCOTUS may do that. However, while an individual state may not nullify any power claimed by the federal government, a combined effort of the states can halt the advance of the out-of-control federal bureaucracy through the power of the vote. The vote is a force no government can oppose.

If the states approach nullification through the power of the vote then the Federal Government has no defense.

Other civil liberty

Do you support or oppose federal funding for Planned Parenthood and other agencies that perform abortions, both in the U.S. and abroad (even if they use money derived from other sources)?

I do not support the funding of any program that takes a life under the guise of birth control.

At what point should the "right to life" or "personhood" be granted to new human beings (e.g., at conception, birth, 5 days old, etc)? What action, if any, will you take to reflect this in law?

The question should not be at what point we are granting life, for that is reserved to God. The question is, are we willing to grant the right to terminate life to the government. The answer is that we do not have the right to terminate life and therefore may not then grant it to the government.

Education

Do you support or oppose allowing parents direct the flow of federal education funds (e.g., to their school or home school of choice)? Support? Oppose? Please explain.

Federal Education Funds should be paid to the states. It should be up to the states how that money is distributed. However, parents of children in private schools and home schools should be given a tax rebate in an amount set by the Texas Legislature.

Ethics

Do you agree with precinct chairs involvement in republican primaries? Why or why not?

Precinct chairs acting individually should not be prevented from endorsing the candidate of their choice. The CEC, however, should not endorse one Republican over another in a primary race. The CEC should be free to endorse any candidate in a non-partisan race.

What's your impression of GOP Speaker Dennis Bonnen after he was caught offering a Quid Pro Quo to Empower Texans Michael Quinn Sullivan?  Should Speaker Bonnen resign?  Should he suffer legal ramifications for his action/s?

Speaker Bonnen should police his own actions and take the steps he feels is right for him. The voters of his district have elected him and would decide if he could return, if he had decided to seek reelection. I personally think he should have resigned immediately and testified before the ethics committee.

Is there anything in your background of an embarrassing nature that should be explained before your election? Arrests/Convictions? Bankruptcys?

No.

Immigration

What, if anything, should be done to protect our borders from illegal immigration?

Build that wall! In fact, let's make it two. If an illegal alien makes it over one wall they should encounter yet another. Have you ever see a prison with just one fence? We keep our prisoners in better than we keep illegal aliens out. Illegal aliens apprehended should be flown to the farthest point in their home country away from the USA and placed in the custody of its own governments officials. A clarification of the law (no new useless laws) should be passed to ensure the easiest means available to return illegals to the country of origin in the fastest way possible.

Amnesty comes in many forms.  What's your view as it pertains to Texas?

A blanket amnesty is not an option. If any amnesty is granted it should be on a case by case basis and only offered to children that were dumped in the USA by parents, that have obtained an education, have no criminal history, and have already taken steps to become US citizens. There is no excuse for an illegal alien to be in the US for 10 years beyond a Visa expiration without having taken some steps to become a citizen.

Transportation

Do you support or oppose the referendum passed by both the MoCo GOP Executive Committee and SREC to allow voters, at the statewide level, to decide in the voting booth whether or not they want a particular toll road?  Why or why not?

I support it completely. We should not be subjected to tolls on roads just because the government does not want to work hard enough to properly finance the infrastructure with funds on hand. Existing tolls should be retired once the road is paid for and maintenance should be placed in the hands of TxDOT. No new toll roads should be constructed without voter approval.

Did you take a public position on the May 9, 2015 Road Bond, and if so, what was it? And in a few sentences, explain why.

No, four years ago I was not a vocal political voice in Montgomery County.

Other

What does being a conservative mean to you?

Primarily, personal responsibility. A person that maintains a responsible lifestyle leads a life that includes careful management of financial matters, maintains responsibility for his actions and that of his family, and supports and surrounds himself with other that do the same. He opposes a government that cannot do the same with those in its charge.

Do you support the Montgomery County Republican Party By-Laws as adopted by the CEC on 6/26/18?  And if not, why not?

Yes. After attending several CEC meetings and interviewing several precinct chairs I have made the decision that the 2018 by-laws were adopted properly, a fact that was confirmed by the RPT. I support the by-laws as they were adopted on 6/26/2018 although they could have been better. The next CEC will adopt by-laws that they deem appropriate for that biennium.
