Questionnaire

General

What are the 3 largest challenges currently facing this position/office and your road map to address them?

1. The huge influx of new residents presents challenges with regard to building new schools, increased need for more buses, drivers, teachers, all of which depend upon tax dollars. The large number of homes being built will increase the tax revenues and the Board will need to be diligent and judicious in how it spends the money, ensuring that taxpayers' hard-earned money isn't paying for unnecessary or unwarranted programs, but rather to fund EDUCATION in the way Parents and Taxpayers demand and expect.

2. As I stated last year, and this is an even bigger concern to me now, as a border state we are seeing many, many thousands of migrants flooding into our state and the majority of them have no English skills, are lacking even basic skills of reading and writing due to a lack of educational opportunity in their home countries. Since we are a state with free public education, the school-age children of many of these parents will certainly be coming to our schools and we are certainly unprepared for this event. Just as I stated above, we will have greatly increased expenses, and with this group there are no monies coming from these migrants. This will certainly mean that our District will be asking for and receiving Federal money which always carries with it the increased burden of strings attached to how it is apportioned, meaning more Government CONTROL over our schools.

3. A third thing which is increasingly disturbing to me is the growing trend in education, and school boards in particular are guilty of this, towards disregard for parental/guardian rights. I only see this problem increasing as parents are being branded by the DOJ as "domestic terrorists" just for standing up for and demanding their Constitutional rights as American citizens. Chlldren do NOT belong to the Federal Government, but rather to parents. Parents are given the charge and responsibility by God to bring up their children. As such, they are entitled to expect and receive the cooperation from schools in this regard as well as transparency in and full disclosure of changes to curriculum, school and/or state policies that directly affect them, especially increases in taxes. As well, parents are entitled to the same rights with regard to academic and nonacademic endeavors or participation by their child in any event, curriculum, survey, questionnaire, etc., and to be able to give or refuse their consent to any of the foregoing without threat of reprisal or censorship..

Education

What are three reasons why you think you are the best candidate running for this Board position?

1. As a degreed certified teacher, parent and grandparent of former students in this District, and a concerned citizen who has lived and paid taxes here for 36 years, I believe this gives me a unique and comprehensive perspective on issues currently facing us.

2. As a native Texan, Houstonian, Christian, and Conservative Republican, I feel that I represent the values of most of the residents of this District.

3. Being a teacher, I understand what it's like to be in a classroom. I understand students, instruction, discipline, expectations, classroom management, parental concerns and the need for open communication with and repect for the parent as well as the student. I feel that having personal on-the-ground teaching experience will make me a positive addition the school board.

What is your position about parental choice and charter schools?

As stated earlier, I am totally in favor of the rights of parents with regard to the rearing of their own children. This includes their own choice of how and where to educate their children, be it in public school, private school, charter school, church or parochial school, or home school. It is THEIR choice, and no one has the right to deprive them of that duty and privilege.

In your opinion, what are the three most important roles of the school board and if elected, how would you contribute to those important roles??

1. The school board is the elected body charged with the responsiility to govern the District.

2. The board has the responsibility to ensure the best possible education experience for all students by providing the best curricula and educational programs which will prepare students for a productive role in society and that teachers and students meet the needs and expectations of the district nf state testing and over-all scores.

3. The board has the responsibility to evaluate the superintendent and itself with regard to integrity and performance of educational and fiduciary respoonsibilites.

I am a person able to work on a team, have an even termperament, collaborative spirit, will objectively look at and evaluate different ideas, stay focused and educated on what the vision and goals of the district are, will hold the district accountable results, for use of funds, and work to maintain a good relationship with the community that elected me. I will evaluate programs, curricula, ensure that we stay in tune with our community's values, concerns, and interests, and work to ensure the best educational experience for all students.

What is the State of Texas school system ranked in literacy and what would your plan be to make it No. 1 in the country?

Overall rank is 28

Quality of Education is 30

I could not find a specific rank for literacy, although the drop out rate is higher than it should be.

Briefly explain how American history should be taught to our students.

American History, as well as Texas History, should be taught using BOOKS which accurately and appropriately teach the history which Texas schools have historically taught and not revisionist history which exaggerates certain aspects, minimizes others, specifically the Christian and Judeo-Christian heritage of  our country. The purpose of teaching it to younger students should be to teach the basic history: knowledge of the founding, the Constitution and Bill of Rights, First and Second Amendments, American Revolution, Civil War, etc. The use of historical documents could make it come alive and encourage further study and heighten student interest. I'm against using 21st Century political ideas of revisionism, critical race theory, etc., to influence young students and cause them to think less of their country instead of realizing that it is still the most exceptional country ever imagined and extant.

Should the MISD Board have total & final authority on what teaching materials are used in the classromm? Please explain fully.

NO. Why should we trust a state agency with that responsibility?! They have no right to determine that unilaterally. This would be granting too much control and authority, and depending on the political, religious, or cultural/social views views of the members might totally go against the views of parents.

How much access do you believe parents should have to their children's curriculum? classroom? teacher? online?

A parent or guardian has the primary responsibility for educating a child, and as such has a legal and Constitutional right to view, approve or disapprove curriculum, be allowed access to the classroom, the teacher, and anything the student is required to participate in online, including controlling access to any content the parent deems inappropriate for age; explicitly socialistic and global political content or that promotes anything designed to sway a student away from traditional American values.

What's your opinion of programs such as Common Core curriculum? Critical Race Theory? Social Emotional Learning? International Bacculaureate?

All of these programs promote anti-American ideology as seen from the perspective of Socialist-Marxist-Globalist ideologues. They teach that America is inherently racist, that white people are privileged and supremacist, that if you are a minority you are considered "lesser" and are a "victim" of White Supremacy, and on and on. Students are taught that there is no such thing as American Exceptionalism and that they should be ashamed of being American, etc. Critical Race Theory isn't actually taught as a subject, but it IS rather used and implemented (praxis) in these other UN-designed and Globalist indoctrination programs. SEL appears all throughout as a tool to change and control our children, gather information on family beliefs, political and religious, and mine data which can be used to target and identify people and attitudes considered "undesirable."

Do you support allowing all students to use bathrooms, showers and locker rooms, as well as participate in sports, based on the gender with which they identify, not the sex they are assigned to at birth?

No. This is de-gendering our students and opening the door for all kinds of issues, lawsuits, criminal activity, bullying, ridicule, and we are charged with providing a safe and fair environment for all students. This would do just the opposite.

The SBOE has been charged by Governor Abbott with developing standards for books found in school libraries to prevent pornography from getting into the hands of our schoolchildren. What is your position on the development of these important standards?

They are needed. If one explores a library at an elementary, middle, or high school these days, it immediately becomes evident that these libraries aren't full of the types of books parents would expect to find. I also am aware that the more traditional types of books that SHOULD be there have been removed and replaced by volumes on witchcraft, inapproriate material with adult sexual content, etc. IF you are allowed to look through the shelves and carrels full of books that are "suggested" or "promoted" reading, you would be shocked and appalled.

Do you support the use of the 1619 Project, or similar curriculum, as the most accurate portrayal of the founding of America?

No. "The central element of the 1619 Project is the claim that 'ant-black racism', slavery, systemic oppression, and other evils are embedded 'in the very DNA' of America. Of course, if America’s very DNA is evil, there can be no change in policy and no possible transformation that would make the nation redeemable ...  the only possible conclusion is that America must die so that something new can replace it. That is the objective. The free market system is painted as responsible for slavery, too."

Why would ANY true American support or believe such propaganda?

Brainwashing Kids With Debunked “1619 Project” to Destroy U.S.

Would you be in favor of returning prayer to every classroom in the state?

ABSOLUTELY.  And the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag with an American flag and a Texas flag hanging on the wall. I did this in my classroom at my homeschool co-op, in Spanish and English, and my students loved it!

Would you agree that our public school systems are not education systems; they are built on the Dewey and Mann systems of humanism?

YES.

How much influence does the board have on the actual classroom curriculum used? What is your plan to achieve that?

The Board has the charge and responsibility to develop, maintain and revew curriculum and to develop and review educatioal policies at the schools. I believe that there should be periodic reviews of books/videos/audio materials that are being used, especially if the Board receives reports or complaints about controversial, inappropriate, adult-oriented books, videos, This could be done on a random basis as well and I believe parents should have the ability to examine materials their students are being taught and be able to have objectionable material brought before the board and voted on in a public meeting.

Ethics

Is there anything in your background of an embarrassing nature that should be explained before your election? Arrests/Convictions? Bankruptcys?

No.

Health care

Would you support a district policy mandating all students and staff wear face coverings to prevent the spread of COVID-19?

No.

Would you support a district policy that requires all staff members and students to be vaccinated against COVID-19?

ABSOLUTELY NOT. That is a personal heath decision which should be a matter of personal choice.

Other

Do you believe a teacher should be required to use a student’s preferred pronoun?

No. That is confusing, subjective, and controversial on the part of the student and would possibly require a teacher or other students to compromise their sincerely-held religious or personal beliefs or risk censorship or ridicule. As well, it also flies in the face of biological fact.
