Dawn McMinn

declared

I have been married for almost 41 years. I surrendered my life to the Lord as a young mother understanding the responsibility to teach my children God's Word. I have taught Sunday School and been a Children's ministry director for almost 40 years. I have been teaching at Calvary Baptist School since 1995.

I have voted Republican since I was 18. I remember first learning of precinct conventions at a protest in support of homeschooling in Austin. Someone gave me a pro life resolution and my friend and went to the convention. We argued about it until midnight but it passed. I would have never known about the process if I hadn't been at that protest. My goal is to educate my precinct on the process and encourage more Christians to vote and participate.

Questionnaire

General

This is a Republican primary race.  Do you promise, if elected, to abide by the RPT platform? And if not, please enumerate what problems you have.

Yes, I agree with the platform.

What best describes your political ideology most(circle only one).
1.        Republican
2.        Grassroots
3.        Conservative
4.        Tea Party

Conservative, economically and socially.

We are taxed enough already, and we need to reduce the size of our out of control bureaucracy.

There's discussion about making major revisions to the RPT Platform. Please describe the nature of any major changes you support.

I do not know of any I would support ,we have a strong platform as it stands.

Should the county GOP chair be involved with fundraising? Why or why not?

Not privately fundraising. Keeping things out in the open going through the  fundraising committee is the best practice.

Do you like the Steering Committee style of leadership currently in place or that of just a county chairman?

Steering committee.

Do you think the 'Republican' brand should be used by PACs in their names that may deceive voters? Why or why not?"

No.Since the Republican Party is not supposed to support one Republican candidate over another, it is confusing to  voters.

Do you beieve that the county chair/precinct chairs should actively participate in at least one committee?

Yes

Are you willing to put in the time necessary to attend CEC meetings, additional committee meetings, training sessions, blockwalking, etc?

Yes

How do you believe precinct chairs should be involved in elections? (election judge, clerk, none?)

If they are able to be judges that is great. Ideally getting to know more people in the community and getting a strong team of  judges and clerks  can free a precinct  chair to work the polls and meet and educate more people.

What's your position on Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan?

It seems there are alot of democrats who like him. Red flag. He seemed to kill many of our legislative priorities. Not sure where his loyalties lie.

Budget

Would you support legislative action to establish a salary framework (possibly related to the Gov. salary) for all taxpayer funded employees with a stipulation that elected officials be required to get voter approval to exceed that framework for their own salaries?

Yes. Elected officials should not be able to raise their own salaries.

Other civil liberty

Do you support or oppose federal funding for Planned Parenthood and other agencies that perform abortions, both in the U.S. and abroad (even if they use money derived from other sources)?

Oppose.

Education

Do you support or oppose social programs in our schools (like C-Scope, Common Core, CRT, International Baccalaureate, SEL, etc.)? Why or why not?

Strongly opposed international standards, especially from the UN. States and local governments should control schools.

Ethics

Is there anything in your background of an embarrassing nature that should be explained before your election? Arrests/Convictions? Bankruptcys?

No

At what point should the "right to life" or "personhood" be granted to new human beings (e.g., at conception, sign of heartbeat, 3 months of pregnancy, birth, 5 days old, etc)? What action, if any, will you take to reflect this in law?

Right to life begins at conception and ends at natural death.

Should the county GOP chair be involved in any other political organizations, including PAC's, while serving a term as the chairman? Why or why not?

No Because a county chairman has such influence it could pose a conflict of interest. Making it seem like the party is supporting a certain candidate over another one.

Immigration

What, if anything, should be done to protect our borders from illegal immigration?

Finish the wall, stop incintivising illegal immigration. Stop anchor babies.

Transportation

Do you support or oppose the referendum passed by both the MoCo GOP Executive Committee and SREC to allow voters, at the statewide level, to decide whether or not they want a particular toll road?

Yes.

Other

What does being a conservative mean to you?

Our rights are given by God and not by government.  Parents have the responsibility to educate their children. Smaller government. Federal government should protect our rights and borders. We should be operating on a budget not continuing resolutions. Judges don't make laws. Most governing should be on the state and local level. Closer to the people. Term limits. Personal responsibility.
