The constitutional amendment dedicating certain sales and use tax revenue and motor vehicle sales, use, and rental tax revenue to the state highway fund to provide funding for nontolled roads and the reduction of certain transportation-related debt.

This measure would dedicate a portion of the revenue from the sales tax to the highway fund starting September 1, 2017. It is estimated that this shift roughly $2.5 billion from the general fund to the highway fund in 2017 and increase over time..

The proposed ballot measure passed the House 142-1 and the Senate 31-0.

The MCTP recommends voting in favor of Proposition 7. It will ensure that our highways receive more funding so that we can lessen our dependence on toll roads.

The rating of 100 indicates that the MCTP vetting committee is unanimous in their strong support for this measure.

Major Issues

The state's roads have been underfunded for sometime and this measure will increase funding for this vital government function.
