Major Issues

Texas Scorecard has consolidated the recommendations for voting on the upcoming state constitutional amendments.October 7, 2023

Mark Ramsey 2023 Amendments Analysis - AGAINST

Breaks the constitutional “spending caps”. Temporary relief for residential homeowners from property taxes. (This is a compromise bill. We still need to ABOLISH immoral property taxes.)

JoAnn Fleming's "GRASSROOTS AMERICA We The People" '

"Voters, beware!  You are being used to grow government! Here’s how."

Current Revolt Position

This is the “Robbing Peter to Pay Paul Amendment” which seems decent at first glance, but has already been exposed as a scam. This is the government returning a portion of its ill-gotten gains, and Republicans want us to be grateful. VERDICT: MOSTLY SCAM (??)

MCRP Position

This is the one Texans have been waiting for! It may not be what most Texans wanted, the elimination of property taxes, but it does provide some relief for property owners.

The most notable forms of relief:

  • Increases homestead exemption from $40,000 to $100,00

  • Provides for the election of up to three members of the appraisal board.

  • Limits appraisal increases on non-homestead property

Overall, this is the best taxpayers are going to get during this session and most all should see some significant relief this year.  This amendment was HJR 2 from the second legislative special session.

Recommendation: YES
