Texas

Court of Criminal Appeals Justice Place 2

office

The Court of Criminal Appeals is Texas' highest court for criminal cases. The Court consists of a Presiding Judge and eight Judges. They are elected by the voters of the entire state, and they hold their offices for terms of six years.

The incumbent for Place 2 is currently Lawrence E. Meyers, who was originally elected to the court in 1992 as a Republican and switched parties in 2013 due to "the influence of the Tea Party movement on the Texas GOP." As a result of his in-office party switch, Mr. Meyers is the only Democrat holding statewide office.
