Questionnaire

General

Have you ever been arrested? Ever had any tax liens? If so, start & resolution dates?

No arrest no tax liens.

What are the three main reasons you are running for this office? Do you see any potential conflicts of interest?

#1 Reason is to take back our community. I plan to have a more proactive office. Use the Pct. 5 Constables Office to fight the war on drugs. Use the office to be more community oriented by public events and training.

What are the three main reasons you are running for this office? Do you see any potential conflicts of interest?

I have lived in my Precinct for almost my entire life. I know the areas that need the most attention immediately. I have worked in the Precinct for almost 10 years fighting crime with not only my department but assisting the other departments. I work well with the Sheriff’s Office and plan to have all local agencies working together.

What do you see as the 3 major challenges for your office over this next term?

#1 Getting the community to understand that we need a new Proactive Constable. #2 Getting the funding and approval for a local jail. There is currently a jail in The Woodlands, East County and in Conroe. If you make an arrest in the Magnolia Area it takes approximately an hour each way which to transport prisoners to the jail. Having a local jail will eventually save time and money for the county. #3 Convincing Deputies that we need to do away with a car allowance and have issued vehicles.

What goals do you have in mind, if you are elected, and to which you want to be measured against in the coming term?

To prove to the community that a constables office can do more with the same resources. Shut down known drug houses in the area.

Are the United States and Texas constitutions living documents?  Please answer in the context of Progressivism versus Originalism.

I believe that the constitutions are living documents and should not be changed. These are the rules and laws our fore fathers put into place and we should fight to protect them.

What is the job of a Constable?

The job of the constable is to issue all civil papers from the courts. This including writs and evictions to protect property of those who possess it. This being said they are still police officers so once the papers are issued there is time to be the real police and uphold the laws of the land. A constable can perform any duty that other officers perform.

Civic, Political or union organization or individuals to whom you have contributed (five years):

Contributed to Rob Harmon and Rickey Rickett for County Commissioner Pct. 2
Magnolia Police Officers Association, First Baptist Church

Please describe the best way for the average voter to determine which candidate for this office is best.

Research to see what each candidate actually does on a daily basis. To understand why each candidate actually wants to fill this office.  I believe that I will be able to provide the community with better service and accountability.

Where do you think the possibility for corruption resides in county government?  How would you handle it in your department, even if you think there is none?

Contract and favors always opens doors for corruption. Allowing outsiders to review information always helps prevent corruption. I also believe that being a strong Christian man keeps you from being corrupt.

How many hours a week working cases does it take to be a "good" law enforcement officer?

I believe a good officer lives it. I work on cases 40 hours a week paid and spend many hours of my personal time working on cases.

How many days off per year should the officeholder of this position take to learn (seminars & workshops) or teach (give educational or motivational talks) or network with other county officials?

I love training. I don’t believe that anyone in any field can get too much education. Although I believe that being on the streets daily is the best training any officer can get no matter what your rank. A good leader will work side by side with his officers.

What have you done to prepare for serving in this role?

I continue to work on a daily basis in the field of investigations. Solving crimes protects our community. I have also taken civil classes for the training to perform the civil duties of this office.

Who is endorsing you and what is their relationship to you?

Not sure of endorsements although I had a large support in the last election and believe that I have much more support from the community this time.

Budget

What are the top 3 areas where the budget for this office needs to be adjusted?

Getting more productivity out of each deputy would stop wasteful spending on salaries. Doing away with personal vehicles and getting issued vehicles.  Move money into funding a jail.

What is your position on taking federal money for your department?

Grants issued to departments through the state and federal programs help small agencies when there is no other way to obtain money.

How will you improve the transparency and access to financial and other records for the public?

The office will follow all rules through the attorney general’s office on how public information is released. I will use internet and social media to keep the public up to date on information.

Other civil liberty

What is your knowledge/opinion on Strong Cities Network?  What action would you take if the Biden administration attempts to implement it?

I don’t believe that we know everything about strong cities. When the Federal Government begins to interfere in local government I do not support. I do not support anything the Obama administration is currently attempting to implement. I fully support local and state rights

What is your position of dash/body cams & public availability of that info

I believe that we must protect ourselves as well as the community by video documentation. Although I strongly believe in the protection of a case. I believe that current law enforcement is under attack by the media. Everyone needs a fair trial and releasing one video to the public just to prove something before a trail has occurred is not the answer. I believe the media should be held responsible for the rioting in the streets due to their lies. When a trial is over that is when information should become public.

Ethics

How much of a problem is county hiring based on the "good old boy" / "loyalty to leadership" instead of one's ability to efficiently and ethically perform their tasks and functions? and what can realistically be done about it?

In the past the “Good Old Boy” has been a problem in our community. With new people moving in on a daily basis their support is starting to fade away. I believe that it is time that the voters will be able to change the past and make a brighter future.
