The district attorney represents the State in all criminal cases in the district courts of his district and in appeals therefrom, except in cases where he has been, before his election, employed adversely. The primary duty of a district attorney is not to convict, but to see that justice is done. 

The incumbent for District Attorney is Brett Ligon, who was originally elected in 2008 and is running for re-election (unopposed in the primary).
